Panel Discussion

The Rise of Folk Clubs

St George’s Glass Studio
Sun 3 May | 2 pm

How did a folk club help lead the revival of Clifton?

Folk clubs are having a moment, with new communities emerging across the UK. But why now?

Join us as we look back, to look forward, exploring the story of Bristol’s legendary Troubadour folk club, told first-hand by Ian A Anderson, and the role Bristol played in the folk revival of the 1960s and 70s.

What role do these gatherings play in modern society? What do they mean to artists, audiences and cities? Why are folk clubs surging now, and what’s happening in Bristol today?

Join a very special panel featuring Ian A Anderson (artist, broadcaster, founder of fRoots Magazine, and regular guest at The Troubadour) Ellie Gowers (artist) and Lizi Morse (artist & co-founder of the George & Dragon singing session) as we explore the past, present and future of folk clubs β€” and the communities they create.

The discussion is chaired by Alex Garden, artist and founder of Greenbank Folk Club.

With the event being recorded for the Greenbank Folk Club podcast.
